Today on September 20, 2008, Singapore Airlines launched the second daily A380 service between Singapore and Heathrow Airport, made possible by Singapore Airlines as the airline received its sixth A380 from Airbus on September 18th following a flight from the manufacturer’s delivery centre in Toulouse, France.Singapore Airlines were the first to receive the Superjumbo and launch into full service in October 2007 and since then has deployed the aircraft on its routes from Singapore to Tokyo and Sydney.
Singapore Airlines still have thirteen Airbus A380s on firm order, with options on six more A380’s.
As other airliners have reduced fuel surcharges on short- and medium-haul flights, Singapore Airlines had also announced earlier this month that it was reducing following a “recent easing” in the prices of aircraft fuel.
